Chief Financial Officer, Virgin Media O2
Patricia has unique operational, strategic and transactional experience in the TMT space with a 20+ year international track record in leading teams, setting strategy and driving performance. She has played a leading role in integrating Virgin Media and O2 in the UK, transforming Telefónica in Europe through key transactions and partnerships as well as business building and operational improvement initiatives.
In April 2021, Patricia was appointed as CFO to lead the new Virgin Media O2, UK second largest nationwide integrated communications provider with £11billion annual turnover. It was created as a joint venture between Liberty Global and Telefónica through the combination of Telefónica UK (O2) and Virgin Media in a £31billion deal which is expected to deliver substantial synergies valued at an additional £6billion which were delivered 18 months ahead of schedule.
Previously, as CFO at Telefónica UK since 2016, Patricia drove growth and returns through the redesign of the strategic plan and capital allocation processes as well as rigorous commercial and operational spend management. This led to significant improvements: top line CAGR of 4.3% and operating cash flow CAGR of 10.0% in the 2017-2019 period, which represent an operating cash flow margin improvement of 140bps while increasing capital intensity throughout the period. Furthermore, she was instrumental in key wholesale agreements and in the renegotiation and extension of TUK’s network sharing agreement. Prior to this role, she led Strategy & Transformation at Telefónica UK since 2014.
Before joining Telefónica UK, Patricia was Director for Business Development at Telefónica Europe, where she developed partnerships, led infrastructure sharing deals and executed key acquisitions and divestitures from strategic rationale through to integration planning, as well as several spectrum auctions across the European footprint. She joined the Telefónica Group in 2006 as VP Strategy & Development for Telefónica Europe.
Patricia was a member of the Telefónica Deutschland AG Supervisory Board since its IPO in 2012, which she helped prepare, through to 2020. She was also a member of the Audit Committee and Chair of the Nomination Committee.
She was named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum (2014) and was appointed Strategic Adviser to Lumia Capital (2016), a San Francisco based expansion-stage VC, further developing her expertise at the intersection of evolving customer trends, market structure and technology.
Before joining Telefónica, Patricia was a consultant with the TMT and Corporate Finance practices of McKinsey & Co. since 1999 in the Madrid, New York and London offices. Patricia started her career with Hewlett-Packard and holds an MSc in Industrial Engineering from Universidad Pontificia Comillas - ICAI (Madrid) where she graduated at the top of her class.
Through her long-standing support of the British Red Cross, Patricia served for 8 years as co-chair of the British arm of the Tiffany Circle, a community of women leaders from all over the world. The Tiffany Circle pool their skills and resources to make a major, lasting difference to the lives of people in need, with a remarkable c. £5 million raised during her tenure for initiatives focused on women and children worldwide.
Originally from Spain, Patricia lives in London with her husband and three children.
