Deloitte Parasport

In the UK, over nine million people are living with a disability. Eight years ago we launched the Deloitte Parasport website to help disabled people find sports clubs in their local area. Deloitte Parasport, part of our support for the British Paralympic Association, provides a ‘signpost’ for disabled people in the UK who are unsure of how and where to participate in local sport. In the past year, the number of people contacting clubs through the site has increased by 34 percent, and in the same time we have added 344 new sports clubs to the database — bringing the total number of clubs to 2,580. Last year alone, over 48,000 people visited the site.

As well as encouraging grassroots sport, Deloitte Parasport is starting to have an impact on the world stage too. Inspired by London 2012, Sophie Hahn, the reigning T38 100m sprint world champion, discovered her talent after finding a local sports club through the site.

Rio 2016 beckons, where Sophie will hopefully compete and inspire a new generation of disabled people through sport.
