Case study

Apprenticeships

“Having completed sixth form in 2011, my year group was the last class to pay around £3k per year to study for a degree. However, that wasn’t enough to persuade me to pack my bags for university, and considering the state of the UK economy at the time, I decided to set out on a mission to find myself a full-time job.

I started working part-time, and whilst I continued my search for a full-time job I came across the Tower Hamlets Education Business Partnership (THEBP). The Corporate Responsibility (CR) team at Deloitte work closely with THEBP on skills development and education and they were looking for an apprentice. My CV was forwarded and before I knew it I had been through the interview process and was in a training room with dozens of graduates attending the Deloitte induction.

After a year as an apprentice with the CR team getting involved in a wide range of projects, my skills and experience developed beyond recognition. So much so that I was offered a permanent role as a Team Administrator within the Deloitte Tax GES practice following the end of my apprenticeship.

Since then I have taken part in several training courses such as presentation skills and career development. I am the charity lead for the Deloitte Muslim Network, supporting event organisation and marketing initiatives. I have also recently become a charity champion for my department, responsible for managing a team whilst out on a community day.

The opportunities that Deloitte has on offer for young people are beyond just a job. These opportunities provide young people with a chance to find their feet in a corporate environment, and Deloitte provides the support to help them develop their own career path. This route has proven to be a great choice for me and I have been privileged to be able to benefit from Deloitte’s support.“
